Broadland Driving Forward Efficiency
As housing associations face continued pressure to drive forward efficiency whilst operating within financial constraints, business intelligence has never been more crucial, says Broadland Housing Association chief executive Michael Newey.

When he joined Broadland in 2003, the IT system in that was being used had hardly changed in 17 years and customer service and decision making were hampered by poor access to information. Departments used a miscellany of programs and databases, supported by paper records.
The organisation embarked on a programme of change and early in 2004 made a decision to introduce RSLmanager by Reidmark. Mr Newey explains: “The sharing of a single piece of information across an entire organisation for multiple purposes sounds simple but in the past has been very hard to achieve. We now feel that we have achieved a dynamic system environment that is delivering better and more efficient working and are seeing positive results in the delivery of customer services.”
In December 2004, just nine months after implementation, Broadland Housing won the highly coveted Business Intelligence category at the Information Management Awards. It was also a runner up in the Knowledge Management category and highly commended as Project of the Year.
Mr Newey adds: “These annual awards are the leading recognition for best practice in customer software solutions, and we were delighted to achieve this level of award!”
